Ditch and Switch with me (Part One)

The new year is approaching quickly. I’m not one for New Years resolutions, but I am constantly trying to better myself and looking for ways to better my family. So here is a challenge for myself. I want to lead a healthier life, a more purposeful and aware life. WHO IS WITH ME?! Cool, so like where do we start?

Toxins lurk all around us. “What is the big deal?” You ask. Do your research, don’t take it from me. Most things you apply to your skin contain fragrance. Fragrance is a word for a thousand different compounds that mask the real smell of the other chemicals you are putting on your face. Fragrance’s best friend is Phthalates. They pretty much go everywhere together. Phthalate is known to cause hormonal disruptions. Mascara contains ingredients linked to cause cancer? No thank you. Guys. The stuff we are slathering on our bodies are known TO CAUSE CANCER. We are surrounded by chemicals in our everyday products that are causing anxiety, mental health issues, cancer, infertility, hormone imbalance. Your family deserves to use natural ingredients. Your family deserves health. WHY ARE WE STILL USING THESE THINGS WHEN THERE ARE AFFORDABLE NATURAL ALTERNATIVES?! Don’t you think it’s worth the switch? Curly haired ladies, this is going to be hard ! I feel you ! I downloaded the Think Dirty app only to find out basically my home is a toxic waste dump. My hair absorbing the bulk of it. Think Dirty is an app where you can type in or scan products and it lists and explains the ingredients and their effects, then rates the product 1-10 based on toxicity.

Things I have already ditched and switched:

  • Degree to Tom’s deodorant – no aluminum. If you don’t know why aluminum is bad, look it up or take my word for it when I say it is linked to cancer.
  • I use a simple oatmeal bar from Aveeno for face soap and have for a while. It scores pretty low on the Think Dirty App.
  • Cotton balls for bamboo pads – because I’m trying to reduce waste as well.
  • Perfume for essential oil rollers. My favorites are stress away and a combo of frank, lavender and rosemary.
  • Lotion for coconut oil and essential oils. I use frank and lavender.

My bathroom needs work. Things I will be switching out with my next Young Living Essential Rewards order.

  • Toothpaste
  • Shaving cream

Things I will soon be switching out with Young Living Products:

  • Body wash
  • Mascara
  • Foundation
  • Possibly shampoo

Also need to find a curly hair product….

I would LOVE to trash everything and buy all the things at once. My bank account on the other hand would probably slap me. This can be a process y’all. It doesn’t have to be an overwhelming and terrifying process. Educate yourselves. Your family is worth it. You are worth it. LEGGO!
